30 September 2008 / 25 January 2009, Lima and Yautan, Peru
The context
GreenBees have participated to the
« Training Program for teachers in rural areas » created by our local partner, Grupo Quilla, in the frame
of the National Educational Project. This project is part of a major
reform program launched in Peru in 2006, via the creation of local
Eduational Authorities, which orchestrate these Project, and partially
finance it, together with the local municipalities.
The aim of Grupo Quilla is to change the way teachers
work in rural areas. To achieve their goal, they train teachers of
primary schools to participative learning strategies. These "teaching
leaders" will visit the teachers in their own classroom once a week, and
enhance them and bring them, step by step, all year long, new teaching
methods.
In 2008, their were working in 3
municipalities in 3 different regions:
-
municipality of Yautan, in Ancash
region,
-
municipality of Tapuc, in Pasco region,
and
-
municipality of Junin, in the Junin region, .

Tapuc: one of the villages involved in the "Training
Program" |
It offers to change the teaching methods, bringing
new tools to the teachers of rural areas. |
Within our partnership with Grupo Quilla, we had been
asked to present and set up workshops introducing cultural identity and
self-esteem to children living in rural areas.
The main objectives
Main achievements
-
The professors have judged the
topics raised by our sessions as very important for the education of
their pupils and to be continued. They are also confident that they
can realise most of the sessions on their own.
-
The local and national authorities
have confirmed added value for the training programme set up by Grupo
Quilla.
-
As GreenBees, we have developped
much more structured, efficient educational sessions, taking over from
Grupo Quilla's.
-
Planned follow-up of the project
Main weaknesses
-
Lack of communication with the
local communities, which are a wealth of the rural areas in terms of
culture.
-
The subjects raised: self-esteem,
democratic behaviour, cultural identity need more time.
-
Lack of work on the subject of the
mother tongue of the children
Actions on the field

 |
The
GreenBees team, under the control of the coordination committee,
created part of the "Training Program", on the topic of cultural
identity. Using the methodology of Grupo Quilla and the
workshops from GreenBees, it has been quite a success.
Nine
complete educational sessions were written and handed down to the
teachers, to the people trained, to our partner, as well as to the
administrative and educational authorities. Each session can be
carried out in 2 hours by a teacher and a leader. One
professor on his own might spend more time. |
